Finding Confidence (and Bras) Post-Explant with the Founder of Love, Lexxi
Hey! It is Natalie Jill! Today on Midlife Conversations, I interview Meg Smith, the inspiring founder of Love Lexxi, a bra company tailored for women of all shapes and sizes, including those who have undergone explants. We delve into Meg’s personal journey through body image struggles, breast implant removal, and the motivation behind creating a lingerie brand that celebrates femininity and comfort. Meg shares her insights on the psychological impact of lingerie, her mission to redefine beauty, and her commitment to innovation in women’s intimates. Plus, some unexpected humor with a messy situation involving my dog and a robo vacuum! đ
Finding Confidence Post-Explant
If youâve been following me you already know that I had an explant (many podcast episodes on this already!) I got them at age 19 when I was flat chested and working at Hooters. After spending a childhood being made fun of for being flat, I was being made fun of them there, too. Decades later, into my 50s, and a number of corrective surgeries under my belt, I realized that my breast implants were making me sickâŚso I decided to get them explanted.
If youâre a woman who has had an explantâŚyou probably already know that the backside of things, although you feel A LOT better health wise, is kind of depressing when it comes to getting dressed again. Youâre used to your old bras, how your old clothes fit, the whole thing. And then here you areâŚwithout your implants, without your bras, without your clothes fitting as you knew them, and kind of likeâŚblah. Soo you set out to find new, and are consistently let down by the options â whether they are just ugly, donât fit your body right (like major gaps), or are just down right uncomfortable.
Well, thatâs where I wasâŚand then I found Love, Lexxi bras. GAME CHANGER!
If youâre in midlife, you have likely gone through the ringer of being told what is the IDEAL body or diet. This can really truly take a toll on not only your body standards, but your confidence. This has ultimately lead a number of us to plastic surgery. Meg got her implants after having baby number two, and her A cups deflated to nothing. Within just a few months of getting them she developed really random symptoms, from slurred speech, to brain fog, and light sensitivity. Over the next few years her symptoms evolved into majorly debilitating symptoms and illnesses and she hit rock bottom. This is when SHE decided to explant her implants.
Meg Smith founded Love Lexxi brand when she was navigating her OWN explant journey and realized there was a major gap in the bra industryâŚand a major lack in how to feel beautiful in your own skin, regardless of the size or how it looks. She was on a mission to create a bra that married the beautiful and sexy feeling of wearing a lace bra, with something that is actually COMFORTABLE to wear and you donât need to rip off as soon as you walk through the door (if you know you know lol).
But what makes Love Lexxi bras REALLY special is the impact they have on your confidence and what beauty and sexy can ACTUALLY look (and feel) like â flat chested or large chested!
