Upsetting the Medical Board, Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease and More with Dr. Jess Peatross
Today on Midlife Conversations, I speak with Dr. Jess Peatross, a former medical doctor who willingly left traditional medicine to pursue root cause treatments for chronic illnesses. Dr. Peatross shares her journey and discusses her expertise in mold illness, Lyme disease, and breast implant illness. We explore the impact of environmental toxins, building practices, dental health, and the importance of nervous system regulation. Dr. Peatross also touches on the potential side effects of vaccines and offers guidance for those experiencing health issues post-vaccination. The conversation emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to health and the empowerment that comes with becoming your own health detective.
Growing up in Kentucky, Dr. Jess Peatross didn’t know much of anything about the holistic functional medicine approach. All she knew was the traditional medical schooling route – so that is what she did. As a hospitalist, she was taught to spent just a few minutes with each patient, prescribe them what they needed to mask their symptoms, and send them on their way. Somewhere along the way, she found social media. She was seeing people making these claims like “food can heal you” and she thought what the heck?! But she would dig in, do the research, and think – wait, they didn’t teach me THIS in school!!
She realized that if she didn’t learn something THIS simple and healing in school, there had to be more that was being hidden, too. She would run back to her fellow doctors trying to teach them what she was learning, questioning why processed dairy, GMO foods, and soda brands had contracts with the hospitals. At each turn of newly learned information she presented to her colleagues in an attempt to start DOING better for patients, she got shut down and frowned upon. They basically told her that she was no longer able to keep practicing if she was going to keep sharing these things…so…she quit.
This was the moment where she pivoted her trajectory to a more functional health approach and set out to HEAL people.
Today we are talking about the THREE big things I get a ton of questions on:
- Mold sickness
- Lyme disease
- Breast implant illness
Why Are These Hidden Illnesses on the Uprise?
What it comes down to, is our environment. The pathogens themselves are typically useful on their own – they are a vital part of our ecosystem whose purpose is to clean up organic waste. So if you are full of “waste” aka toxins and trauma, you will have these pathogens inside of you trying to help clean them up. Did you know that fish can hold up to 6x the expected amount of heavy metals simply because they have parasites inside them ingesting the heavy metals. The same thing happens to you as a human.
Mold has been around forever…but it’s the modern day building and living practices that are causing the problem. The western world is simply just over-stressed. When you are always in fight or flight and not in rest and digest, your body gets pulled out of homeostasis. When this happens, if you are exposed to something (like a mold), you are a sitting duck because your nervous system is out of balance and unable to keep up.
The most important thing you can do is control what you can control, be diligent in what you are putting into your body, eat organic whenever possible, and work on regulating your nervous system.
How to Best Detox?
EBOO is an amazing way to detox because it’s like dialysis of the blood. It really does a wonderful job filtering out the toxins and preventing you from having a herxheimer reaction. With other detox routes, like supplements, you MUST be sure to have your drainage pathways open (pooping healthily 1x/day minimum, can you sweat, can you process alcohol/caffeine, etc.) beforehand or else you will get really sick and feel really yucky during the detox process (herxheimer reaction).
If you can’t go to the bathroom daily, you are likely stuck in fight or flight.
If you know you have been exposed to mold, you should:
- Regulate your nervous system
- Get your drainage working
- Address your past root canals and check your teeth for hidden infections with a biological dentist
Regulating Your Nervous System is SO Important to Your Health
In Dr. Jess’ words – how are you going to release a mold spore when you can’t even release a thought?! You must work toward being an observer of your thoughts. You have to focus on working on your thought patterns, work on your breath, and learn how to get into the rest and digest phase. You have to get into a flow state of trusting in the unknown, trusting that there is something greater than you that’s got you. Let go and know that no matter what happens, even if it sucks in the moment, it’s for your greatest good. You are a human being, not a human doing. You can manifest the same success in the silent and the stillness that you can in the “doing”.
Some easy tips to help your nervous system:
- Ground outside
- Get sunshine on your skin
- Meditate
- Focus on gratitude
