In this episode of Midlife Conversations, I share my three-day overlanding experience with my husband, Brooks. We explore what overlanding is and how it differs from traditional camping. I discuss the challenges and highlights of living outdoors, the importance of preparation, and the personal growth I experienced. Brooks provides insights from his military training and expertise in outdoor survival, making our journey both educational and adventurous. We also delve into how overlanding can help build resilience and prepare you for unexpected situations. Tune in for a candid conversation about pushing boundaries and embracing new experiences.

Yep! I tried overlanding with my husband for 3 days! Your girl is not a camper…and my husband is newly into this.

I learned a lot of lessons while there…

🧘‍♀️ I don’t do well with stillness and nothingness. I get to work on that. I get super and fidgety when I am supposed to be still  (maybe it’s my ADHD) and I REALLY noticed this on the trip. This is why meditation, and even slow yoga have been challenging for me. I’m committed to fixing this and being ok with stillness.

💨 When we stink we can’t smell others. Normally when my husband comes home from camping I’m like “get in the shower” but I guess because I am just as grimy right now, I don’t smell a thing 🤣

💐 Nature cures everything. We left for our trip after I had a fever and sinus infection. Being out in nature felt a lot better than sitting on my sofa feeling sick.

🐻 💨  I have weird irrational fears of wild animals and the wind pushing our camping truck off the cliff. I worry about things for nothing.

🥰  I actually enjoyed it. I was in my head about being uncomfortable but it was not bad and it was beautiful.

🌲 Northern Arizona is actually beautiful – wow. Breathtaking. Loved exploring Sedona,  Flagstaff and some remote areas outside of those!

💪 My husband is a bad a$$$ loved watching him in his “living off the land” masculine and protective element. He thought through every detail. His military background and Navy Seals training was showing! I’ve never seen him so happy and at peace.

🚚🏕️ Overlanding is better than sleeping in a tent . Kudos to my husband for being obsessed with building out an Overlanding truck .

🚿 I can use wet wipes to “shower” and even eat freeze dried food out of a bag. I can do hard things (for 3 days 🤣)
